This is an infection of the tonsils normally caused by streptococcus bacteria. Tonsils are 2 small mounds on either side at the back of your throat. They contain cells that are able to capture germs, such as bacteria and viruses, which enter the body and may travel into your airways, causing infection.
What are symptoms?
Tonsillitis or inflammation of the tonsils occurs when the tonsils become infected. The infection causes the tonsils to become red, swollen and inflamed, and sometimes become covered with a whitish coating or spots. Tonsilitis can cause a painful sore throat which can last for several days. In addition the following symptoms can be present

✅Fever
✅Loss of appetite
✅Bad breath
✅Feel lumps under the jaw and neck (swollen lymph glands)
Treatment
Most people will feel better in about a week and general self-care advice includes taking over the counter medicines such as paracetamol and ibuprofen. Drinking warm tea with honey as well as gargling with warm salt water can also help provide relief.
